Let’s flashback: In the Season 1 finale, Joel made a brutal choice. The Fireflies wanted to operate on Ellie to create a cure — but it would’ve killed her. Joel said nope, went full Rambo, and took out the entire hospital staff to save her. Then? He straight-up lied to Ellie about it.
