In the fourth episode, Homelander goes to the place where Vought experimented on him and other superpowered individuals, keeping them in a lab. Here, memo says “Project Odessa,” and that raises questions. This plot, which is not seen in the comics, might be what Vought has in store for replacing Homelander. That the lab is still open and the same scientists are still at it means that something is happening.
Why Replace Homelander?
This is evident in the case of Homelander, whose erratic behavior puts him in a position where he is dangerous to the group. He has displaced Stan Edgar and is running free like a horse on the racecourse. Vought has to have a method of containing this powerful supe, and making a new Homelander is quite possibly their plan. If Vought can come up with a better version of Homelander, then they may have something that could control him.
The Historical Connection
The name Odessa itself is a clue to a rather sinister past. In the Second World War, ODESSA was an undercover organization of the Nazis planning their getaway. This project was initiated by Vought’s founder, Frederick Vought, who was a Nazi. Thus associating this project with the company’s dark past. However, that the man who would have been the author of this project, Frederick Vought, is long gone. This makes the project even more interesting.
Could Stormfront Be Involved?
Another captivating turn is Stormfront, a leading Nazi antagonist who featured until Season 3. In her disillusionment with Homelander. She could have set Project Odessa in motion to build a new supe before she dies. This theory aligns with her character and with Vought’s previous behaviors of conducting immoral experiments.
What Could Go Wrong?
Making a second Homelander is dangerous. If Vought does succeed, they may be able to manipulate him but the experiment may very well turn out badly. It is possible that this new version is even more dangerous. And this will lead to the emergence of new unpredictable scenarios.
What Lies in the Future for The Boys?
It can be assumed that, as the series advances, the consequences of Project Odessa will be revealed, increasing tension. This leaves the fans in anticipation on how Billy Butcher and the rest of the team will handle this possible new threat.
